In Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus warns His friends that He will be put to death. Peter protests. How can this be? Jesus is the Messiah, the one who will restore Israel to glory. A suffering, dying, and defeated Jesus contradicts everything that Peter believes.
Jesus then explains that He has not come to win political glory, but to destroy the everlasting death that sin causes. By losing His earthly life, Jesus will free people from the lasting power of death. To share in His victory, they must shoulder the crosses that come their way. They must do as Jesus does, deny themselves and live for others.
ATTEND MASS ON SATURDAY EVENING WITH YOUR FAMILY.
