Parent Letter May 25, 2018
Dear Parents/ Guardians,
Monday is Memorial Day. There will be no classes for the students. Classes will resume on Tuesday. Be safe and enjoy this 3-day holiday weekend with your family.
Thanks to all who volunteered for the school picnic today. Without your assistance, your children would not have had this opportunity to relax and have fun at the park with their classmates. Thanks to Grace's Proud Parents for providing the food and the ice cream treat, and for paying the permit fee for the use of the park.
During the past week, you showed support for your children. Last Friday, many parents were present for the Vocabulary Parade. They saw some amazing costumes! Thanks to all of you who helped design the costumes and thanks to Ms. Cartagena for organizing this event.
Thanks to all of you who were also present for the spring concert this past Wednesday evening, supporting your children as they presented their gift of song. Thanks to Mr. Rholl for preparing the students for this concert.
The pledges for the Walk-a-Thon totaled $6523. Thanks to all those who pledged more than $15. Some of you used the balance for your fund raiser fee as a pledge. This was a great idea and added to the profit for the Walk-a-Thon.
Students in grades 5-8 will participate in a spelling bee on Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 in the school hall. All are welcome.
There is an all-school Mass on Friday at 8:15. You are invited to join us in prayer at this Eucharist.
For students who did not have a behavior form during the month of May, they may enjoy a dress down on Thursday.
The focus next week is on our eighth grade students as they prepare for graduation. They will participate in their class trip on Wednesday when they will enjoy a cruise and lunch on the Spirit, and then a visit to the Enchanted Castle in Lombard. On Friday, the students will have practice for graduation following the 8:15 Mass, participate in an awards ceremony to be held at 10:00, return to their classroom to receive their report cards, and then enjoy lunch together with their families at 11:30. The students will be dismissed following the lunch. The graduates will return in the evening to celebrate Mass together for the last time as students of Our Lady of Grace. The Graduation Mass will be celebrated at 7:30. During the Mass, diplomas will be presented to our 21 graduates. We congratulate our graduates and ask God' s blessings upon them as they begin the next phase of their education-high school. We thank them for sharing their gifts and talents during the years they were students at OLG, some since preschool.
On Sunday we will celebrate the feast of the Most Holy Trinity. In Sunday's Gospel, the Apostles do what Jesus orders them to do. They go to a mountain in Galilee where Jesus joins them and gives them their life mission: Go, make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Those words were part of our baptism. The mission of the Apostles has reached into our own day. In the name of the Trinity, we have become disciples of Jesus.
COME TO MASS ON SUNDAY AND SHOW THAT YOU ARE DISCIPLES OF JESUS.
