Parent Letter Aug. 31, 2018
Dear Parents/ Guardians,
On Monday we celebrate Labor Day. There will be no classes for the students. Classes will resume on Tuesday.
Tomorrow is the parish festival. Please come and support this event.
On Wednesday evening we will have a Parent Orientation/ Open House. The evening will begin at 7:00 PM with a general session for all parents in the school hall. Following the general session, you will have the opportunity to visit two classrooms where teachers will provide you with their goals and expectations for the year and how you might work with your children's teachers in the education of your children.
In last week's letter I failed to recognize a returning staff member-Mrs. Pat Tokarz. Mrs. Tokarz is an invaluable member of our preschool program.
On Thursday morning, representatives from various Catholic high schools will be visiting OLG, making presentations to the 7th and 8th grade students, providing information that will help students choose the Catholic high school which best meets their needs.
Friday is the first Friday of the month. We will have an all-school Mass at 8:15. The students in grade 3 have planned and will be actively participating in Mass. Please join us in prayer.
On Saturday, September 15, We will have our first "Family Mass" of the year. Students in grades two and seven will be participating as readers and gift bearers in this Mass. There will also be a children's choir. All students from grade 3-8 are encouraged and invited to be a member of the choir. A permission form is being sent home with this parent letter.
The school library will open on Tuesday. If you can volunteer in the library on Tuesday and/ or Thursday mornings, your help would be greatly appreciated. Remember you must have completed the "Protecting God's Children" training in order to volunteer.
Since we have arrived at the end of the month, your tuition payment for August should be paid. If you have not made your payment, please send your tuition payment on Tuesday with the late fee of $30 and the FACTS fee of $30. I ask that you pay your tuition promptly each month so that you do not incur late fees. This also helps us pay our bills on time.
To those of you who drive your children to and from school, I want to thank all of you for your wonderful cooperation in dropping off and picking up your children. We are having very few of you double park. That insures the safety of your children. As a reminder, please do not park your car on Ridgeway and then wait by the fence in the morning until your children enter the building. If you wish to do this, please park on Altgeld. Thank you.
In Sunday's Gospel, some Pharisees and scribes complain to Jesus that they have seen His followers take food without first performing the ritual hand washing required by their religion. Jesus tells these religious leaders that they have no right to criticize. They perform all the prescribed rituals according to the letter of the law. They practice rituals for their own sake rather than out of the heartfelt love and respect for God.
