Parent Letter 2/09/18
Dear Parents/ Guardians,
Next Wednesday is Ash Wednesday, the beginning of the season of Lent. Staff and students will attend the 8:15 Mass. We encourage you to come to this Mass where ashes will be distributed. If you cannot attend Mass in the morning, there will be a a Mass at 6:00 PM in English and 7:30 PM in Spanish.
During the season of Lent, assigned classes will attend the Stations of the Cross on Friday afternoons at 2:00. If you pick-up your children at dismissal, why not come a little earlier and pray the Stations with the students? The students have also received a Lenten Bank for their almsgiving. Each Friday we as that the students empty their banks and bring their almsgivings to school.
We, as well as you, were disappointed with the crash that Empower Illinois experienced on Wednesday, Jan. 31. AS I write this letter, I do not know when you will be able to submit your applications to Empower Illinois. As soon as we get the information, we will pass it on to you. ( I am hoping that you were able to submit applications earlier this week.) If you submitted an application to Big Shoulders Fund SGO, you will be getting information soon. BSF informed us that they received 123 applications from OLG families.
Big Shoulders Fund SGO and Empower Illinois SGO will be asking for verification of enrollment for 2018-2019 for children receiving a tax credit scholarship. I encourage you to register your children as soon as possible. When you submit your registration papers, you must also submit the $50 registration fee for each of your children. Students are not registered until we have the registration fee.
This past Wednesday, through a partnership with Big Shoulders and to Bernie's Book Bank. I hope this will encourage your children to read more each evening.
The tuition payment for February is due on Thursday. Please be prompt in making this payment to the school. If you have not paid all your fees (fees were to be paid by December 21), we ask that you take care of this obligation by Tuesday, February 20. Next week you will be receiving a report listing all balances.
We will be having our second Parent/Teacher conferences on Thursday, March 1. These conferences are not mandatory as were the Conferences in November. If you would like a conference time with your children's teachers, a letter is being sent home today. Please return the form by Tuesday, February 20.
We will be having our third Family Mass on Saturday, February 24, at 4:00. Students in grades 3 and 5 will be actively participating in this Mass. Students in grade 3-8 are invited to be part of the choir for this Mass. A permission slip is being sent home today with this letter. A social will follow the Mass in the school hall.
As indicated in previous parent letters, STUDENTS WILL BE IN CLASS NEXT FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 16. There are no classes on President's Day, February 19.
Thanks to all of you who contributed to the Penny Way during Catholic Schools Week. A total of $590.60 was raised. Second grade brought in the most pennies ($109.35). The grade that had the most pennies after deductions of silver and currency was Miss Johnsons' preschool. Both of these classrooms will be rewarded for their efforts.
In Sunday's Gospel, a man with leprosy approaches Jesus and says, "If you wish, you can make me clean." This man know that Jesus knows his distress. He believes Jesus will heal him if Jesus so wishes. Jesus, of course, says, "I will do it." This man gives us a way to pray. "If you wish..." Our daily prayer becomes a deeper part of our faith when we first proclaim, "If you wish..."
