Parent Letter 02/16/18
Dear Parents/ Guardians,
Last Friday we experienced our first school closure due to snow in a long time. We sent a message via School Messenger with the announcement. Just to remind you-when the School Messenger system is used, there is a slight pause before the message is delivered. If you have caller ID, it will indicate that OLG is calling. I ask that you please wait for the message before hanging up. This will eliminate the need for calling the school to ask why OLG called. Thank you.
There will be no classes on Monday. We will be observing President's Day. Classes will resume on Tuesday morning.
The second trimester will end on Friday. Report cards will be given to parents scheduled for the Parent/ Teacher/ Student Conferences on Thursday, March 1, or on Friday, March 2, if tuition payments and fees are current. You received a "report card" this week indicating how you are performing in your financial obligations. If you are delinquent, please take care of this before Thursday, March, 1, so that you can see how your children are progressing.
Our third "Family Mass" will be celebrated next Saturday, February 24, at 4:00 PM. Students in grades 3 and 5 will be actively participating in this Mass. A children's choir will lead all of our families to attend the Mass and social.
The "Students of the Month" for February have been selected. These students are: Karina Jimenez, Kataleyah Martinez, Mariah Dilworth, Grayson Covello, Allison Villegas, Cesar Garcia, Brendan Castro, Kevin Loja, Keylyn Corrales, Lailah Drink, Dominic Padilla, Jalilah Alicea, Jeidelisse Ortiz, Daniel Carrera, Vivian Diaz, Hector Dubon, Ilani Perez, Andrew Nuñez, and Melany Nuñez. Congratulations, students!
The tax credit scholarship program is moving forward. When you are awarded a scholarship, you will be given some time to provide documentation that you have enrolled your child in the school you designated. We encourage you to register your children as soon as possible for 2018-2019. Remember there are some incentives being given- a dress down day for your children every Monday until the end of this school year and your family name goes into a raffle drawing for one month's free tuition (1st prize) or a set of gym clothing for one of your children (2nd prize) each week after you have enrolled your children.
This past Wednesday we began the season of Lent. Hopefully, you have decided what you will do as a family to observe the season in the areas of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. Please have your children return money from their Lenten banks on Friday.
In Sunday's Gospel, after His 40 days in the desert, Jesus came to Galilee and announced His good news to the people. The good news was that God loved them. Jesus is our proof of God's love. He lives a life of perfect love. When it came time for Jesus to make a final choice between Himself, and us, He chose us. In this supreme act of love, Jesus saved us from the lasting death of our sins.
If we truly believe the good news of Jesus, we will concentrate on letting Him change us into people of love and compassion during these weeks of Lent. We will die each day to selfishness so that we may rise to new life with Jesus now and at the hour of our death.
