Parent Friday Letter
With the 4:00 Mass Saturday afternoon, we will begin our week-long celebration of Catholic Schools Week. We expect all of our families to be present for the Mass. We are grateful to all of the students who will be participating in the Mass as altar servers, readers, choir members, and gift bearers. The theme for this year’s national celebration is: “Catholic Schools: Learn. Serve. Lead. Succeed.” The theme focuses on key elements of Catholic education: faith development, academic excellence, and dedication to service. Following the Mass, an Open House with a science/art fair will be held in the school until 6:00 PM. If you know a family who has children enrolled in a public school, invite them to the Open House. With today’s letter you are receiving a flyer which details the plans for the CSW Celebration. Highlights include the week-long “Pennies for Heat” competition, 8th grade fun fair on Wednesday, and staff appreciation luncheon on Friday. THANKS to the parents who have volunteered to supervise the students at lunch on Friday so that the staff may enjoy lunch together. With grateful hearts, we appreciate all of our volunteers and all of you who have enrolled your children in OLG. You make Catholic education at OLG a possibility.
The CSW Celebration also begins the registration process for the 2018-2019 school year. A registration packet is being sent home with your oldest child today. Please look for this and plan to register your children as soon as possible. There are incentives for your children and for yourself.
How appropriate that as we begin the celebration of CSW you can submit an application for the tax credit scholarship program which allows you to give your children a Catholic education without paying any tuition. THANKS to all of you who submitted applications to the Big Shoulders Fund SGO this past Monday. Next Wednesday at 12:00 noon, the Empower Illinois SGO will begin to accept applications. As noted in all the correspondence you have received, you may apply to more than one SGO and we encourage you to do this.
Again, we will provide some assistance to you by opening our computer lab from 12:00-3:00 on Wednesday afternoon. Please have the required documents downloaded. If you returned the Intend to Return Form sent to you last December, you are receiving today a letter that must be downloaded and submitted to Empower Illinois SGO. If you have not returned the form as yet, please return it on Monday so that a letter can be written for your children. LETTERS CANNOT BE WRITTEN ON WEDNESDAY.
Since scholarships are awarded on a first come, first served basis, the sooner you apply the better chance you have of receiving a scholarship. If you received a letter from the Archdiocese stating that your children are receiving a Phoenix or Caritas Scholarship, you must apply for a tax credit scholarship. This is also true if you received tuition assistance from Our Lady of Grace. Don’t miss out on this wonderful opportunity!
Krispy Kreme donuts can be picked up on Thursday after 12:00. Thanks to the parents who will travel to Elk Grove Village on Thursday morning to pick up the donuts and thanks to all of you who supported this fund raiser.
As I indicated in last week’s parent letter, we will be having class on Friday, February 16. Please note this on your school calendar. We will be taking another day for professional development later.
In Sunday’s Gospel, we observe Jesus teaching in a synagogue. The people are spellbound, we are told, because Jesus teaches with authority. Jesus is like the great teachers we have known, only more so. Jesus loves His subject – God – above all things and He loves His students enough to lay down His life for them. Jesus’ authority comes directly from God. He not only teaches the word of God, He is the Word of God.
AS PARENTS, COME TO MASS ON SUNDAY AND LEARN HOW TO BECOME BETTER TEACHERS.
